Who is In the Mitten Counseling?

I'm Julie Monan and I'm a

I believe that all people, at some point in their life, feel stuck. Therapy is a process to help a person feel unstuck through self-discovery, self-awareness, learning, and sometimes through practicing new ways of thinking and/or new behaviors.

I received my undergraduate degree in Education from Western Michigan University in 2001. I continued my education, graduating with a Masters degree in Counseling in 2008 from Eastern Michigan University.

In my private practice, I use an eclectic approach that takes advantage of both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Person-Centered Counseling practices. With Cognitive Behavior Therapeutic practices, clients work to develop specific coping skills and strategies to help change their ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving with a goal of mental and emotional health. Person-Centered therapy provides a therapeutic environment that is client focused, supporting progress towards a client's counseling goals.

I specialize in couples therapy, individual therapy, and preteen and adolescent therapy (ages 11+). Typical topics include: anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, trauma, and life transitions (retirement, job transition, divorce, affairs, sexual identity, moving, death, infertility, etc).
